Unused and Cut Content

In this page, you can read about many of the different unused and cut content, more specifically, game content that was available during the closed beta for Korean MapleStory, content that never fully made it into the game or content that was around the testing servers only.

Closed Beta NPCs

In the oldest available closed beta client for Korean MapleStory (dating back around 2004), there were four different NPCs that weren't being used at all. They have functions defined in the game's files, dialogue and quests assigned, but they were most probably used prior to this version, or never implemented in the game. Nothing much is known about the NPCs, and there's not much information about them in old korean forums for the game.

Something interesting about the unused NPCs, is that they have low numbers as IDs, probably signaling how early in development they were added to the game.

반스 (Banseu) is an NPC with a green uniform and a staff with a golden top. His hat seems to be in a shape of a mushroom. He seems to be some kind of guard, together with 에블라 (Ebeulla), having really similar uniforms.

Has the quest value of fighter in the game files, so he was likely used for the Swordsman job change during the closed beta.

Banseu has three dialogues:

에블라 (Ebeulla) is an NPC with a green uniform, really similar to 반스 (Banseu) , but with the difference that he looks more like a warrior because of his polearm. Has the quest value of magician, probably an early Magician job change NPC, before Grendel was introduced into the game. Despite looking more like a warrior, he seems to have the quest value for the Magician quest.

Ebeulla has the following dialogues:

당신도 말썽 일으키지 않도록 행동 조심해.	"You better behave yourself too, don’t go causing trouble."

Something interesting about his dialogues, is the fact he mentions 엠블라 (Embla). This NPC is nowhere to be found in the files, so it's probably referencing a way more early NPC. Though, there's no way to confirm this as of now.

루시 (Lucy) is an early shop NPC, selling different weapons available on the game. However, some of the IDs defined in the shop do not exist, signaling how early in development she was added to the game. She is likely an early version of Lucy, a shopkeeper in Amherst.
